Side extension to a period property
Selsfield Common, West Sussex

Fenice Design + Build were contracted by James and Lynn to create additional living space at the period home in Sussex. Architect Jo Saddy from Ecotecture created designs for a single storey side extension which would give James and Lynn an additional living room, bathroom and music room without impacting on their existing home.

The new living space can be accessed via a bespoke staircase which helps connect the new to the old and has double aspect ceilings flooding it with light.

The project includes:

  • Split level side extension
  • Exposed brick internal walls
  • Bespoke staircase
  • External timber cladding
  • New shower room and associated plum

We are absolutely delighted with the extension which Fenice Design + Build have built for us. We engaged them initially as we felt they were a professional team, interested in creating a high end product with the care and attention necessary for an old property. The team is enthusiastic and easy to talk to and given the detailing involved, his quote was competitive, if not the very cheapest. We have not been disappointed!

The Fenice Design + Build organisation structure works well for building novices such as ourselves, particularly having a dedicated site manager and using the online Buildertrend for monitoring stage payments.

Given that we were living and working on site for the duration of the build, it was a pleasure to have Alec, all his team and all the subcontractors around. They were all good humoured and ready to listen.

Inevitably we had a few issues to resolve, especially with the connection to the old timber-framed building, but these were dealt with swiftly with alternative strategies agreed and carried out to our satisfaction.

We would have no hesitation at all in recommending Fenice Design + Build.
